We have a small but mighty group of eventers in Southwest Missouri (area code 417) with just a handful of eventing instructors and barns. We are coming together as 417 Eventing to support the Girls on the Run of Southwest Missouri.
Girls on the Run (GOTR) inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience based curriculum which creatively integrates running. GOTR envisions a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. www.gotrswmo.org
Girls on the Run strives to teach girls to:
*Recognize her own power and the responsibility to be intentional in her decision making.
*Embrace our differences and find strength in our connectedness.
*Express joy, optimism and gratitude through our words, thoughts and actions.
*Nurture her physical, emotional and spiritual health.
*Lead with an open heart and assume positive intent.
*Stand up for herself and others.
Using a 10 week curriculum, girls grade 3-5 are introduced to life lessons to help them develop coping skills and self-esteem while incorporating fitness training to prepare for and run in a 5k road race on April 30th.
The great migration of eventers occurs in April as well. 417 Eventing is traveling to Lexington, KY to spectate at the Rolex Kentucky CCI*** eventing competition (www.rk3de.org). It draws competitors from across the US as well as several European countries. It also draws spectators from around the world. It is The Holy Grail of the sport of eventing.
In 2015, the organizers of Rolex added the Rk5k Twilight Run to the activities surrounding the competition.
The girls of 417 Eventing are natural competitors, but very few of them have ever run a 5k. We have chosen to run the Rk5k as SoleMates in 2016 to support Girls on the Run of Southwest Missouri. We are excited about bringing attention to GOTR in an environment that will reach many new people, not simply runners.
GOTR SoleMates complete endurance events to raise funds for Girls on the Run. Students in Title 1 schools- schools with a high percentage of economically challenged homes- pay only $10 of the $150 program fee, and many other family members rely on scholarships provided by GOTR so their girls can complete our program.
We invite you to join us as we change the lives of young women in our community. Please consider giving financially and helping us expand to more schools and offer more scholarships to girls who otherwise would not be able to afford this transformational program.
Need Ideas? Here’s how your donation can help:
$50 buys running shoes for one girl
$100 buys t-shirts for a GOTR team
$150 sponsors a girl for one season
$2,250 sponsors a GOTR team for one season.
Please cheer on the girls of 417 Eventing by donating to Girls on the Run as we embark on our personal 5k challenge.
